Former World Champion Chávez Jr. Jailed in Mexico After Deportation From the US

Former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. was jailed in Mexico after being arrested and deported from the United States.

Chávez was detained just days after his June fight with influencer Jake Paul in Anaheim. The Department of Homeland Security said Chávez was held for deportation to Mexico, where an arrest warrant accuses him of involvement with organized crime and illegal trafficking of firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Chávez spent 46 days in custody before being deported to his home country.

Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed at a morning press conference that the boxer had been deported to the country.

Recall that in June 2025 at the Honda Center in Anaheim Chávez lost to American influencer Jake Paul by unanimous decision. Chávez’s previous fight was against former UFC fighter Uriah Hall in July 2024; that bout went the distance and Chávez won by unanimous decision. His record stands at 54 wins (34 by knockout), seven losses, and one draw.
