Famous promoter Eddie Hearn stated that John Ryder, after his win over Zack Parker, is the mandatory challenger for the fight against the undisputed super middleweight world champion, Saúl Álvarez nicknamed Canelo.

Ryder had a fight against Parker on Nov. 26 in London. John won the fight early as a result of his opponent's refusal to continue after the fifth round. Ryder had 32 wins (18 by KO) and five losses.
Álvarez had his last fight against Gennady Golovkin last September in Las Vegas. That fight ended in Saúl's favor by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 58 wins (39 by KO), two draws and two losses.
