WBBL: Scorchers win last ball-thriller

In a low scorer, the Perth Scorchers beat the Melbourne Stars by four wickets. Melbourne didn’t score too much and could only muster up 122 but the team’s bowling kept them in the game before Alana King hit a boundary to ease the equation for Perth.

Elyse Villani lone stand

For Stars, Elyse Villani made a whopping 84 runs out of the total, which makes for around 68.5%. No one among the rest of the batters could even reach double-figures in a shoddy batting effort. Heather Graham took three while Sophie Devine and Alana King took one wicket. Marizanne Kapp just gave 11 runs in her four overs.

Kapp-Carmichael rescue, King hits a big boundary

Scorchers lost three wickets for just 39 runs while chasing the target. However, Chloe Piparo stabilized the innings before falling after making 27 runs. Then Marizanne Kapp and Mathilda Carmichael put on 43 runs and then Mathilda fell after making a quick 30 runs off 20 balls. Linsey Smith gave just two runs in the second-last over and the Scorchers required nine to win the game off six balls.

Alana King hit a four with three balls to spare but she run out, however, leaving just a single off the last ball. Taneale Peschel completed the single along with Kapp to bring Scorchers home. Annabel Sutherland took two wickets, Linsey Smith, Kim Garth and Tess Flintoff took one each but the defending score didn’t prove to be enough.
