122-Year-Old Portuguese FC Boavista Is Close to Disappearing

According to Portuguese sports media, the football club Boavista, formerly a participant in the country's Primeira Liga, is close to being declared bankrupt.

Previously, the Panthers were unable to obtain a license to play in the Second Liga, Third League, or Campeonato de Portugal due to outstanding financial debts. After being relegated from the top division at the end of the 2024-2025 season (eighteenth place, 24 points from 34 games), Boavista registered for the regional Porto League (D-5). However, they withdrew from the competition in October after a series of losses. Furthermore, the court of Vila Nova de Gaia has registered a petition for the club's liquidation based on numerous debts.

Boavista's management stated that they would try to maintain the structure so that the club's youth academy players could continue to use the club's facilities.

Boavista became the Portuguese champion at the end of the 2000-2001 season. In addition, the club won the National Cup five times (1974-1975, 1975-1976, 1978-1979, 1991-1992, 1996-1997).
