16-Year-Old Brazilian Goalkeeper Dies After Saving Penalty with His Chest

A 16-year-old goalkeeper from an amateur team in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, Edson Lopes Gama, died after saving a penalty with his chest.

The incident took place on January 5 of this year. Reports indicate that the goalkeeper had no prior heart issues.

According to 20minutos, the ball hit the player between the sternum and diaphragm. Upon impact, the goalkeeper fell, suffering acute pain. The journey to the hospital took Lopes 11 hours, and unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save the young athlete.
