AD: Spartak Striker Promes Wanted to Make €6 Million from Drug Sale

Spartak striker Quincy Promes expected to make around €6 million by selling a batch of drugs, according to AD.

Promes was previously charged in the Netherlands with smuggling 1,370 kilograms of drugs, Het Parool reported on May 30.

The first hearing on the charges against the athlete took place in a court in Amsterdam on June 5. According to prosecutors, Promes invested €200 thousand in drugs and planned to get 6 million from selling them.

Before shipping the illegal drugs, the Dutchman was in contact with his accomplices in Antwerp, who were to pick up the drugs.

On June 4, Promes received the award for the best player of the Russian championship according to the fans' votes.

His agreement with Spartak is valid until the summer of 2024. In the current season, the 31-year-old has 37 matches in all competitions, 25 goals and ten assists. Transfermarkt portal estimates the market value of the forward at 11 million euros.

Earlier Dutch journalist Jeroen Kapteijns said that Promes can be sentenced, but he will not receive a punishment as long as he is in Russia.
