French club Bordeaux has announced that English forward Andy Carroll has decided to leave the team. The player joined the club in the summer of 2024, when it was competing in the fourth division of French football.
Today, to be closer to his children, Andy has chosen to return home. We fully understand and respect this personal decision. Thanks for everything, Andy. You'll always be home here. Safe travels and see you soon!
In the 2024/25 season, Carroll played 23 matches for Bordeaux and scored 11 goals. He is currently 36 years old and has previously played for French club Amiens, as well as several English teams including Newcastle, Preston, Liverpool, West Ham, Reading, and West Bromwich. He represented the England national team in nine matches, scoring two goals.
The 2024/25 season saw Bordeaux compete in the second amateur division in France following a voluntary relegation and loss of professional status due to financial issues. It's worth noting that the club has won the French championship six times, with the last title coming in the 2008/09 season.
