Boca Juniors Coach Miguel Ángel Russo Dies at 69

Argentine club Boca Juniors officially announced the death of Miguel Ángel Russo, the team’s head coach.

Russo, a two-time Argentine champion as both player and coach and winner of the 2007 Copa Libertadores, died at 69. Since 2017, he battled cancer while continuing to manage the team’s training. In September, he was hospitalized due to a urinary tract infection, and later his condition unexpectedly deteriorated.

He coached Boca Juniors in 2007, again from 2020 to 2021, and returned in 2025. In addition to Argentina, he managed clubs in Spain, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, and Saudi Arabia.
