A match of Chinese football club Guangxi Pingguo ended in tragedy for Togolese midfielder Samuel Asamoah, who sustained a neck injury after hitting an advertising board headfirst, reports The Sun.
The incident occurred during a match between Guangxi Pingguo and Chongqing Tonglianglong in China’s second-tier division. While fighting for the ball near the touchline, Asamoah collided with an opponent, lost balance, and struck his head on a nearby advertising board. The midfielder stayed on the field awaiting medical assistance.
Later, Guangxi Pingguo released an official statement noting a high probability of paralysis of the player’s legs due to multiple fractures of cervical vertebrae and significant nerve damage. Asamoah underwent surgery and will be unable to play for the rest of the season, with his future professional career uncertain.
