FIFA Reports Record Spending by Clubs in January Transfer Window

The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) has released a report indicating that football clubs have set new records for the number of new player signings and total expenditures in the 2025 winter transfer window.

According to the data, men's professional clubs have already signed 5,863 players, which is a 19.1% increase over the record set in January 2024. The total spending has reached $2.35 billion, marking a 47.1% rise compared to January 2023.

Leading the expenditure are clubs from the English Premier League (EPL), who spent a staggering $621.6 million. Following them are teams from Germany's Bundesliga with $295.7 million, and Italy's Serie A, which ranks third with expenditures of $223.8 million. In terms of revenue, the top earners are clubs from France's Ligue 1 ($371 million), Bundesliga ($226.2 million), and EPL ($185.2 million).

On February 7, The Telegraph reported that English clubs are considering shortening the winter transfer window to two weeks and closing the summer window before the start of the season.
