FIFA Tightens Penalties for Racism in Football

The press service of the International Federation of Football (FIFA) announced on its official website that it has intensified penalties for displaying racism during matches.

The FIFA Council has approved changes to the disciplinary code. The new version of the code will introduce a three-step action plan for referees in the event of racist insults at the stadium. Officials will have the authority to suspend games and stop them early.

The maximum fine for racism will be around six million dollars. Moreover, players and officials will help identify offenders in the stadium to have them removed from the venue.

All federations that are part of FIFA will need to adjust their disciplinary provisions to align them with the new FIFA disciplinary code.
