Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni said striker Lionel Messi is ready to take part in the game against Mexico in the second round of the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar.

"He's fine," Scaloni was quoted by Argentine publication Clarín.

For Messi, the game against Mexico could be the 21st of his World Cup career. If he appears on the field, he will equal Argentina's record holder Diego Maradona. The next group stage match against Poland on November 30 could make Messi the sole owner of this record.

The Argentina vs. Mexico match will be played Nov. 26 at the National Stadium in Lusail. In the first round, the Argentines lost to Saudi Arabia 1-2, and the Mexicans drew with Poland (0-0).
