Kenyan midfielder Kenneth Muguna has joined Botswana’s top flight side Township Rollers and the former Police FC captain hopes he can guide the Gaborone-based side back to Premier League title honors. Rollers, one of the most successful clubs in Botswana’s history, have not won the title since the 2018-19 season.
And now, they are embarking on an ambitious plan to break this hoodoo that has seen them go six years without a title.
Speaking exclusively to Telecomasia.net from Gaborone after penning his contract, Muguna said he is eager to put in his worth and help his new club get back to the top.
I have been following Rollers and their progress since around 2016 and this is a club I know really well. They have the biggest history in Botswana’s football circles but have not had success over the last six years. My ambition is to help the team win the league this season and it will be great for the club and fans if we make it.
The midfielder has played his last three seasons with Police FC in Kenya, helping them to the league title last season. He also played for Gor Mahia, winning three FKF PL crowns with them. Muguna has also had stints in Georgia and in Tanzania with Azam FC.
I decided to move here because I wanted to have a new challenge and experience something new because I have played mostly in East Africa. When the chance to come to Botswana opened up it was an easy decision because as a player, you also want to test yourself in new environments.
The midfielder has already joined in his new employers in pre-season training and is looking forward to making a good impression when the campaign starts.
