Spain's Gavi is the youngest goalscorer in a World Cup match since 1958

Spanish midfielder Gavi became the youngest scorer at a World Cup since 1958, according to statistics portal Opta.

Gavi scored in the 74th minute of the first round of the group stage match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the national team of Costa Rica. At the time of the goal, the player was 18 years and 110 days old.

The record belongs to former Brazilian national team forward Pele. He scored at the 1958 World Cup at the age of 17 and 239 days.

Spain beat Costa Rica 7-0. The Spaniards scored three points and topped the standings in Group F. The team of Luis Enrique will play against Germany in the second match of the World Cup 2022. The meeting will take place on November 27.
