Tanzania national team assistant coach Juma Mgunda has challenged the three East African countries co-hosting the delayed 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) – Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania – to ensure the title remains in the region when the tournament is staged in August.
Speaking exclusively to Telecomasia.net, Mgunda believes that home ground advantage will play a crucial role for the three teams, and wants to see an East African affair in the final.
his is a golden chance for us as a region to make history. It is up to us to tell the players that it is their turn to make a remarkable performance. We will do so in Tanzania, just to tell them how vital this tournament is for us. I want to see either Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania in the final and why not have an East African final? Our supporters will always be in the stadium to support us and we should leverage on that.
Speaking on Tanzania, Mgunda says they know it will not be an easy tournament, and reiterates they will prepare to compete. Tanzania have been drawn in Pool B and will face Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and debutants Central Africa Republic.
Tanzania are playing in the TotalEnergies tournament for the third time in history. Twice they have competed, in 2009 and 2020, they have never gone past the group stages.
