Harambee Stars assistant coach John Kamau has suggested that Kenya needs to organize monthly training camps to enable it to prepare better for the delayed 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which will be staged in August.
Kenya is co-hosting the tournament with neighbors Uganda and Tanzania. The tourney was postponed from February to allow the three countries get critical infrastructure ready.
Speaking exclusively to Telecomasia.net, the tactician says early preparation would be the best to have a competitive team.
The postponement is a blessing in disguise for us because we now have more time to prepare. It may seem like we have a lot of time until August, but it is not. We need to prepare early and not wait close to the tournament. I think we must have monthly training camps with the players even if for three or so days to try and build a strong unit early enough.
Kenya has been drawn in a tough group and will take on two-time winners Morocco and DR Congo as well as Zambia and Angola. Kamau admits that this will be a tough group, but says it will be a motivation to the players and technical bench to work even harder for a good performance.
For you to win, you have to play against the best. It is a great challenge to have these teams in our group and I believe they will bring the best out of us. People may look at it as the group of death but for me it is a motivation.
Kenya is making its debut in the tournament by virtue of being one of the three hosts.
