Vitesse Arnhem fans must be counting their blessings to escape without an injury as a stand in the NEC Nijmegen-based Gofferstadion crumbled and fell apart. The incident occurred after the Vitesse footballers came on the area of the pitch near the stand and the rousing fans jumped up and down. The stand gave way and started to split while the players stood not so far away on the edge of the pitch. However, no one got injured as per reports, although it does call into question why it collapsed in the first place. Earlier, Vitesse beat N.E.C one-nil courtesy of a goal by Baden Frederiksen.
