Fifty-year-old Canadian ice hockey player Todd Bertuzzi, a former forward for several National Hockey League (NHL) teams, has announced his return to professional play with the Cambridge Hornets in the Allan Cup Hockey (ACH) league.
The Hornets hail from one of the strongest leagues in the Canadian province of Ontario and have clinched the Allan Cup four times (1960/1961, 1968/1969, 1971/1972, 1982/1983).
I think it's like cycling. Obviously, there will be a lot of younger, faster guys. I respect the league and what they do. I'm not coming back with a huge amount of fanfare. I feel healthy enough to play, and I'd like to play with them and help them win a championship.
Bertuzzi has played for various North American teams including the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, and Calgary Flames, spending a total of 18 seasons in the NHL. During his career, he played 1,159 games and earned 770 points (314 goals and 456 assists). After retiring in 2014, Bertuzzi took on the role of head coach for the Cambridge Red Hawks in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) on April 7, 2025.
