On June 18, a criminal complaint was filed in Albuquerque regarding a hit-and-run incident in which Jon Jones is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident that occurred in February. A court hearing is scheduled for July 24.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, police reports reveal that a woman was found at the accident site in an advanced state of intoxication and without clothing from the waist down. The woman claimed that Jon Jones was driving and had left the scene on foot.
She later called him, and a police officer monitoring the call recorded "allusions to violence" from the man on the line. The officer joined the conversation and also heard similar remarks.
Despite suspicions, Jones did not confirm his identity during the phone call. Later, in a face-to-face discussion with officers, he claimed that the woman had left his house intoxicated, expressing doubts about the authenticity of the statements made by the person on the phone at the time of the accident.
The woman reported that she had been drinking alcohol and taking psychoactive substances at Jones’s home on the day of the incident and could only remember being at the accident site afterward. She also stated that the last person driving her vehicle was Jon Jones.
Police documented 13 calls from Jones's phone to the woman's number from the time of the accident until the following morning, as well as messages with content that has not yet been disclosed. The reasons for the lengthy delay in filing charges remain unclear, and the connection between this case and Jones’s decision to retire are not officially confirmed.
