Russian former UFC fighter Irina Alekseeva, in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, explained how the medical examination process is run before fights and why some fighter injuries, discussed only after the bout, go unnoticed.
There are health checks in the UFC, but, let's say, they happen at random. For example, at home, we submit blood samples, and they might ask us to have some kind of an ultrasound. Then a doctor conducts an examination after the weigh-in. Some fighters simply know how to hide problems – athletes often do that.
"For example, before my last fight, I had a chest X-ray and a heart ultrasound. In Brazil, when I was cutting weight, I had to go to a local clinic and take a pregnancy test at the organization's request. Fortunately, ACA fighter Felipe Froes lives there, and he helped find a hospital," Alekseeva said.
The 35-year-old Alekseeva has a total record of five wins and four losses. Irina had four fights in the UFC, in which she had only one victory. After three consecutive losses, the Russian was removed from the UFC roster.
