Top UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington of the United States is officially appointed as the back-up for the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman on March 18 at UFC 286.

Recall that Usman and Edwards first met in December 2015 at UFC on Fox 17. That fight, which went the entire distance, ended with Usman winning by unanimous decision. At UFC 278 in August 2022, Edwards defeated Usman by fifth-round knockout.

Covington, 35, fought his last fight at UFC 272 in March 2022, defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision. He has 17 wins and three losses under his belt.
