Dave Lovell, coach of British fighter Leon Edwards, believes his fighter could have performed much better in the title fight against American Belal Muhammad.
Dave Lovell in an interview with Ariel Helwani
It's a bitter pill to swallow, but I take nothing from Belal. He won. He waited his time [for a title shot] like Leon did, so he made the most of it. Fair play to him, but yeah, it's a bitter pill for me to swallow for the simple fact on how Leon lost it. The lackluster effort, for whatever reason. We all know that was, what, 30, 35, 40% of Leon Edwards that night. So [it's] one of them, man.
Edwards faced Muhammad in July 2024 at UFC 304. In that fight, which went the full distance, Leon lost by unanimous decision, relinquishing his UFC welterweight title.
Edwards will next step into the octagon against Sean Brady in the main event of UFC Fight Night 255, scheduled for March 22 in London. Leon has a professional MMA record of 22 wins and four losses, with one bout declared a no contest.
