His Corner Did Him a Favor: Cormier on de Ridder’s Refusal to Continue Against Allen

Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier commented on middleweight top contender Reinier de Ridder’s decision not to continue into the fifth round against Brendan Allen.

On October 19 in Vancouver, Canada, at the main event of UFC Fight Night 262, Allen won by technical knockout.

Daniel Cormier, quoted by Red Corner MMA
He was barely able to get up after rounds 2, 3, and 4. There was no way he was gonna get through another five minutes. His corner did him a favor by saying, ‘Hey, we’ll give you the opportunity to live another day and fight another day.’ I know we’re hard on coaches for not being willing to throw in the towel. Reinier de Ridder’s coaches threw in the towel — they gave the guy a chance to fight another day.

Reinier de Ridder last fought in July 2025 at UFC on ABC, defeating Robert Whittaker by split decision. His record is 21 wins and three losses.

Brendan Allen last fought in July 2025 at UFC 318, defeating Marvin Vettori by unanimous decision. His record stands at 26 wins and seven losses.
