I’ve Never Thought About Retirement, But I Keep Getting Asked About It: Oliveira

Former UFC lightweight champion Brazilian Charles Oliveira stated that he has never considered retiring and that only journalists always raise the topic.

Charles Oliveira
Look, listen, the retirement talk is in your guys' head. I've never said anything about retiring. Not a moment I've talked bout retirement, but in every interview I get asked. I don't know if I'm fighting bad or if you guys want me to retire. I don't know what's happening. Every interview I give, people talk 'retirement, retirement.' At no point have I ever thought or contemplated about that, but all the questions are the same. I'm not thinking about it.

On October 12, at UFC Fight Night 261 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Oliveira will fight the Polish fighter Mateusz Gamrot.

Gamrot last entered the octagon in May 2025 at UFC on ESPN 68, defeating Ludovit Klein by unanimous decision. He has 25 wins, thee losses, and one no-contest on his record.

Oliveira last fought in June 2025 at UFC 317, losing to Ilia Topuria by knockout in the first round. His record stands at 35 wins, 11 losses, and one no-contest.
