Former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo commented on the decisions made by Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev to vacate their respective titles in order to move up to higher weight classes.
There’s a difference between being a multi-division champ and a double champ — having one belt on one shoulder and the other belt on the other shoulder, like Conor McGregor, Amanda Nunes, Daniel Cormier, and Henry Cejudo. I felt like Ilia and Islam should never have vacated their belts.
Cejudo last fought in February 2025 at UFC Fight Night 252, losing to Song Yadong by technical decision (unanimous). His record shows 16 wins and five losses.
Topuria will compete for the vacant lightweight title against Charles Oliveira on June 29 at UFC 317 in Las Vegas. In October 2024, Topuria knocked out Max Holloway in the third round at UFC 308. He boasts a perfect record of 16 wins with no losses.
Makhachev's last appearance in the octagon was against Renato Moicano in January this year at UFC 311, Islam won that fight in the first round by submission, defending his UFC lightweight title. His record includes 27 wins and one loss.
