Henry Cejudo's coach Eric Albarracin shared his thoughts on the fight between Islam Makhachev and UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net.
“I have experience with double champions. It's not easy to become a champion in two weight categories. We have to give credit to Islam. He spoke about wanting to become a welterweight champion and he is delivering what he said. Makhachev is going to fight Jack Della Maddalena. You know these Aussies have shown what they can do. Alexander Volkanovski and his trainer Craig Johnson had a great fight with Islam. They have a secret style that they use and it works,” said Albarracin.
As you can see, Maddalena is now the champion. I'm interested to see this fight. It's a big step up because the weight difference is bigger. These guys at welterweight punch a lot harder. Of course, Makhachev's weight management will affect the fight, but the power of his opponent is also an important factor. Makhachev will feel that power and we'll see what happens. So I'm excited, it's going to be one of the best fights in UFC history and I can't wait for Makhachev to fight Maddalena.
Former UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has 27 wins and one loss on his record. Maddalena has 18 wins and two losses in his professional career.
