Kenya Morans head coach Louis Kisia says this weekend’s Africa Sevens in Mauritius is an opportunity to build the senior team depth ahead of next season’s World Rugby Series. Kenya has taken a second tier team to the African championship, with most of the senior players in the Shujaa side given an opportunity for rest and recovery after a grueling season.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net, Kisia, who serves as an assistant to Kevin Wambua with the senior team Shujaa, says the young players will earn an opportunity to show their worth in Mauritius as they look to be considered for promotion next season.
This is a good opportunity for these boys to travel and show what they have done for the whole season, and also show that they can compete for a place in the Shujaa team next season. We always want to bolster our senior team to ensure that we have enough depth moving on to the World Series and our goal is to ensure that we have at least to players in every position. We have given these young guys a chance and it is up to them to raise their hands and show they are ready.
Kisia says the team has had ample time to train and prepare for an attempt at the Africa title, and believes they are ready. Kenya is drawn in the same pool with neighbors and reigning champions Uganda, as well as Ghana and Ivory Coast.
