Road to WTA Finals 2021: Players who made it (Part II)

Here are the fourth-to-eight seeded qualifiers for the WTA Finals 2021:

Maria Sakkari: Sakkari reached her first-ever Grand Slam Semi-Final when she did so in the French Open, only to lose against Krejcikova, 7-9 in the third-set tiebreaker. In Wimbledon, Shelby Rogers ended her campaign in the second round. In the US Open Semi-Finals, her dream got shattered by the title winner Emma Raducanu. She lost the final in the Ostrava Open to Anett Kontaveit and conceded a walkover to Alexandrova in the Semis of Kremlin Cup.

Iga Swiatek: Maria Sakkari ended Iga’s campaign in the French Open’s Quarterfinals as the Polish player couldn’t defend her title. Swiatek won a WTA singles title in Doha, defeating Pliskova. She lost in the Semi-Finals of the Ostrava Open and her campaign ended in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Open.

Garbine Muguruza: Garbine lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open to eventual champion Naomi Osaka after having a substantial lead. Ons Jabeur ended her Wimbledon campaign in the third round. Barbora Krejcikova ended her campaign in both Cincinnati and US Open. Muguruza then won the title in Chicago but saw her campaign end in the first match of the Indian Wells Open and in the quarterfinals during the Kremlin Cup.

Paula Badosa: Badosa won her first WTA title in Madrid, winning all games in two sets. Paula reached her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinals in the French Open but lost to Tamara Zidansek. After going through a series of health issues, Paula struck hard in the Indian Wells Open, winning the biggest title of her life.

Anett Kontaveit: Anett as the last qualifier to WTA Finals certainly deserved to be here. She had a heck of a year, winning four titles, including three of them in a single month, i.e. Ostrava Open, Kremlin Cup, and the recently concluded Transylvania Open. Kontaveit enters as the most in-form player in the tournament with ten wins in a row.
