Pope Leo XIV, known for his fondness for tennis, made a joke about world number one Jannik Sinner by playing with the meaning of his last name.
During a conversation with a journalist who suggested organizing a charity match in support of the Vatican and bringing in stars like Andre Agassi, the Pope smiled and replied, "Just don’t bring Jannik Sinner."
However, the Pope acknowledged the outstanding level of play exhibited by the 23-year-old tennis player.
Sinner is currently participating in the Masters in Rome, marking his first tournament since his suspension. In the third round, he will face Jesper De Jong from the Netherlands.
In February, WADA suspended Sinner until May 4, 2025.
