West Indies pulls off a miracle win versus South Africa women

Every now and then sports have the tendency to produce nail-biting games and this match proved to be one of them. West Indies came into the final ODI trailing 0-4 in the series and South Africa had won every game without any issues, dominating for most of the parts. In the fifth ODI, West Indies pieced together 192 runs, the South African women also made the same amount of runs but then West Indies won in the one-over eliminator needing just seven to win in six balls.

Rashada Williams has impressed in a short time and her temperament could be seen in this match as she made 78 runs out of the total of 192, apart from Rashada, Hayley Matthews finally made a decent contribution with the bat. Matthews compiled 48 runs innings and a partnership of 97 between Rashada and Hayley became the main reason for West Indies’ total.

It seemed another one-sided affair once again as the South African openers put together a humongous 111 runs with Lizelle Lee continuing to torment the hosts. This is when Qiana Joseph had her caught when she made 61 runs. This is what triggered a collapse and Lara Goodall and Tazmin Brits followed soon after, with the latter making a substantial 48 runs.

After this, Grimmond continued to pour pain and reduced South Africa to 143/6. Mignon du Preez once again put her foot down and compiled a 49 runs partnership for the seventh wicket. South Africa needed one to win off the last ball but got run out in the end. In the eliminator, the visitors made just six runs and the West Indies’ batters got through despite losing a wicket.
