WNBA: Mystics prevail and Lynx wins big

Mystics 82 Dream 74: Tina Charles got her mojo back and poured buckets after buckets over the Dream. The Dream began well as Monique Williams inserted some shots early, driving to the hoop. However, in the second quarter, Plaisance’s three-point stroke and Charles’ inside game destroyed the Dream’s defense as Washington secured a six points advantage. Rookie Aari McDonald who scored eleven nailed some outside shots and kept the Dream in the game along with their ace Courtney Williams, who also received support from Tifanny Hayes. However, Charles dominated on both ends accumulating 26 points and 16 rebounds to carry her team to a much-needed win. Courtney once again led the Dream in points with 23 while Billings held her own with 14 points and 10 boards. Natasha Cloud generated another all-around performance with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists while Theresa Plaisance had one of the best games of the season with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Washington is now 11-18 and Dream sits at 7-22.

Lynx 89 Fever 72: Fever played some inspiring ball in the first quarter, even holding a one-point lead by the end of the quarter. Then the experienced Lynx crawled their way back in the game with a five-point lead at the half. However, the third quarter, which has been Fever’s weakness all season long, came to haunt them again as Lynx got a huge separation after outsourcing them 30-19 in the period and earning a 16 points advantage. With Lynx’s shooting clicking, the Fever couldn’t catch up in the end as Minnesota won the game. For Minnesota, Ariel Powers has now stitched together three 20 or more points games in a row and once again led them in scoring with 20 points. Kayla McBride chipped in with 15, making her signature runners and floaters, while Fowles collected 13 points and 7 boards. For Fever, Jantel Lavender made inside shots throughout the game and bagged 15 points and 9 rebounds off the bench while Tiffany Mitchell top-scored for them with a 16 points effort. Fever is now at 6-22 and has the worst record in the league while Lynx is at 19-10.
