After a poor start as the reigning champion, Brian Snitker's team nearly caught up with the New York Mets, the leader of their NL East division, by the end of the first half. Atlanta now has 46-39 and the Metropolitans 49-30. There is very little left to catch up on.

St. Louis could have done better in Philadelphia
The Cardinals won only one of the three games in the road series against the Phillies. First, Oliver Marmol's team let their opponent get back to 0-3 and lost, then they won somehow, allowing their opponent to go 0-5 and clinching the win only in the end. In the third game, however, St. Louis lost by all accounts, 0-4. Yes, the Cards were clearly expected to do better here. St. Louis is now 44-37 and in second place in the NL Central Division, two wins behind leader Milwaukee.
Dakota Hudson, 6-4 and a 3.83 ERA in 15 games, will start on the pitcher's mound in the first game in Atalanta.
