If you're looking for a clear favorite this season, it's definitely Gen.G. They're currently the strongest team in LoL Champions Korea (LCK). They were the standout team in the spring split and also won their first international title at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). Gen.G made history by becoming the first team to finish the first round undefeated with an 18-0 record, which broke SKT T1's record from the 2015 Summer Split. While many thought Gen.G would sail to victory, they surprisingly lost to Hanwha Life Esports in a close 3-2 series in the summer split playoffs.

Even so, Gen.G players are still one of the strongest teams out there. With Jeong 'Chovy' Ji-hoon at mid and Kim 'Canyon' Gong-bu, an outstanding jungler, their teamwork is second to none. Kim 'Peyz' Su-hwan, who replaced Park 'Ruler' Jae-hyuk, has taken on the role of shooter confidently, while Son 'Lehends' Si-woo, in a support role, shows versatility and dangerous hook combos. Gen.G's discipline and macro play mean they're effective in tight matches, so they're a team no one wants to face.

Weibo Gaming

Weibo Gaming, one of the strongest teams in the LPL, did well in 2024 even though they didn't qualify for the World Championships directly through annual points.

The team finished the regular season in third place at the Rumble Stage, which meant they got into the third round of the LPL Summer Playoffs. They got off to a strong start in the playoffs with a 3-1 win over Ninjas in Pyjamas but then had a setback with a 0-3 loss to Bilibili Gaming in the top set semifinals. However, Weibo showed real resilience with a tense 3-2 victory over LNG Esports in the lower semifinal and then sensationally defeated Top Esports (3-2) in the lower grid final. They couldn't hold on again in the final against Bilibili Gaming, failing 0-3.

Despite their great performance during the season, Weibo Gaming didn't build on their success in terms of points and had to appear at the LPL Regional Finals. They lost 0-3 to LNG Esports but beat JD Gaming 3-2 in the final matches for the last spot at Worlds 2024, making it to the last train to Paris.
