Botafogo is very close to becoming the Brazilian champion after 29 years of waiting. The Lone Star club won its first Copa Libertadores last weekend and could win another trophy. Botafogo leads with a three-point advantage over Palmeiras and only needs to draw against São Paulo to win the Brasileirão. If Botafogo loses and Palmeiras beats Fluminense, the Paulistas will be the champions.

Whatever the result, the Paulistas already know they will finish the league in sixth place. Zubeldía's team had a consistent but lackluster campaign. São Paulo's style of play throughout the season was always more pragmatic than spectacular. The Tricolor qualified for the Copa Libertadores but needs more quality players next season to win the trophy. São Paulo was eliminated on penalties by Botafogo in the South American competition this year and will now go to the Nilton Santos to spoil the Cariocas' party.
