Orlando Pirates vs Al Ahly Prediction: The Buccaneers have a stern test against the most dreadful team in the competition

The stage is set for one of the most anticipated games in Group C as one-time CAF Champions League winner Orlando Pirates face off against the most successful team in the history of the competition, Al Ahly, at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday. Both teams kicked off their campaign with a convincing win, and we expect nothing but an exciting matchup here.

Orlando Pirates (South Africa)

After four years without appearing in this tournament, the Buccaneers began their CAF Champions League campaign with an emphatic victory over CR Belouizdad. It was a decent start for the visitors, who were all over their opponent, scoring twice in 27 minutes through Mohua Nkota brace. Orlando Pirates dominated the first half and could have scored more than two goals. However, the hosts changed the gear after the break and started asking questions as they fired thirteen shots but could only convert one. It ended in a (1-2) victory for the visiting Orlando Pirates in Algeria— a rare result away from home. 

The Buccaneers have been firing from all cylinders this campaign until their recent league game against Stellenbosch. The defeat ended their run of five consecutive wins in all competitions. 

They have also just lost twice in all competitions, winning two trophies already. Orlando Pirates head here after knocking out Botswana giant Galaxy SC. 

The Pirates will be keen to bounce back on their home turf against a formidable opponent tomorrow.

Al Ahly (Egypt)

The Red Devils kicked off their journey of defending the CAF Champions League title with a resounding win over Stade d'Abidjan. Even though they were exciting in front of goal, scoring four times, there were lots of eyebrows raised as to why they conceded twice to such opponent. Just like they always do, Al Ahly piled pressure on the debutant Stade d'Abidjan team, scoring three times and conceding once just before the break. The second half was nothing to write home about as both teams got a goal apiece in a (4-2) victory. 

Al Ahly returned home intending to replicate such a performance; unfortunately, they had to settle for a toothless stalemate against National Bank of Egypt in their domestic league. 

The current Egyptian League champions are gradually renouncing their significance, and if their impoverished performance persists, they might lose the league to Zamalek this season.

Al Ahly are adequately experienced in this competition, and we trust them to put up a good show here. 

Expert Betting Tips

Over their previous six meetings, Orlando Pirates have won three, while Al Ahly have managed one victory, and two games ended in a deadlock. Both teams were formidable in their respective opening games; however, Orlando Pirates were more direct in their approach.

These are two of my favorite teams in the continent, as both teams exude quality in all departments. Orlando Pirates are known for their possession-based game and fast counter, with Barcelona-bound Relebohile Mofokeng being one of their secret weapons. 

It’s going to be an end-to-end game, considering the return of Emam Eshour, who was phased out in their last two games. 

The guests won’t be moved by the noisy home supporters as they are familiar with such an environment, and I expect them to play to their potential against a highly respected Orlando Pirates.

In games of this caliber, it’s not advisable to bet against the hosts and I’ll enjoin you to go for goals here.

I also think this game will produce more than two goals, considering the quality of attackers on the pitch.

I’m backing the hosts to at least secure a point on their ground.
