Genoa vs Benevento Prediction: The Griffin will confirm their status as favourites

Genoa will play their first game of the new season on home soil against Benevento in the Italian Cup. Will the Griffin manage to win?

Genoa changed ownership in 2021. The new management team proved cooler than the previous president, Enrico Preziosi, and did not change their head coach despite relegation from Serie A. German specialist Alexander Blessin continues to work with the team.

The Genoa squad didn't change much in the off-season. Cambiaso joined Juventus, and Lerager left. Domenico Criscito, the Griffins' captain for many years, also left for MLS. Among the new additions are strikers Massimo Coda and Güven Yalcin, defender Radu Drăgușin and midfielder Filippo Melegoni. Genoa is the main favorite to win the Serie B title this season.

Benevento

The team was in the same situation that Genoa was now last season. Benevento failed to make a Serie A campaign in one season. The team finished the Serie B tournament in 7th place and lost to Pisa in the semi-final of the extra playoffs.

The team enters the new season with the same head coach. Like Blessin at Genoa, Fabio Caserta remains in charge at Benevento.

Genoa is indeed the strongest team in the upcoming Serie B season. They will likely prove their class as early as the first leg and even in the relegation game. At the end of last season, the team of Alexandre Blessin showed a very well-balanced football, and it is unlikely that anything could have changed during the 1.5 months off-season.
