Sekhukhune United vs Cape Town City Prediction: We think this game will be decided after the regular time

After a decent run in the CAF Confederation Cup and South African Premier League, Sekhukhune United will be keen to get off to a flying start when they face off against Cape Town City in the Quarterfinals of the MTN 8 Cup. Both teams have made some significant strides in their attempt to perform at the highest level this season by acquiring some players during the transfer window.

Babina Noko's side had a decent season, finishing fourth spot on the log ahead of Cape Town City. For the second consecutive season, they’ll play in the CAF Confederation Cup. 

Sekhukhune United are yet to win any major trophy since their promotion to the first division, but they’ve made progress over the years. 

There has been a total overhaul in the management of the club as they appointed German tactician Peter Hyballa to lead them to glory this season. They have also signed some players, and most of their key players have left. 

Cape Town City

The Citizens had a poor ending in their previous league campaign, as they finished below the top four for the first time in four years. Cape Town City, tied on points with fourth-place Sekhukhune United, couldn't make it to the continental tournament. Cape Town City have sold their prolific goalscorer, Eric Manyo and it’ll be hard to replace him.

The Citizens were the winner of the MTN 8 Cup in 2018, with a runner-up finish in 2017 and 2021.

Both teams have won twice, and two games ended in a tie over their previous six meetings. Sekhukhune United have a new coach and have let go of their influential midfielder, Elias Mokwana. It will be difficult to adjust without their anchor man, and coupled with the fact they just acquired a new coach, we can see them struggle here. At the same time, Cape Town City have sold their main striker, Eric Manyo, who has been their best player for three consecutive seasons. We are not sure how long it will take them to adjust, but with coach Eric Tinkler in charge, we expect him to look for solutions before the commencement of the league season.
