On Friday, the Sailors will square off against Brunei DPMM FC at the Bishan Stadium. The visitors head here from Brunei League after they were forced to withdraw from the Singapore league as FIFA suspended the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam for government interference in football.

The home side kicked off their campaign with a win over Tanjong Pagar. They scored three times, while the visitors responded once to secure their first win of the season.
The Sailors wrapped up last season in the second spot after losing four games in a row. Albirex Niigata took advantage of their bad run of matches as they leapfrogged Lion City at the top of the log. To crown their already horrible league campaign, Lion City failed to qualify in a group with Balestier and Young Lions in the Singapore Cup.

Brunei DPMM FC
The visitors will commence their SPL campaign against the Lion City after seven years without appearances. Since the 2016 season, the Football Association of Singapore has been reducing the number of imports allowed per the Singapore League team. This has affected the Bruneian-based outfit greatly, with a lesser pool of local players against Singapore's or Japan's in the case of Albirex Niigata.
