Celtic have been working hard over the last few years to become the most titled team in the history of the Scottish championship. In 13 previous seasons, the White-Green have won the national championship 12 times, and therefore are now only one title behind Rangers - 54 against 55. There is no doubt that they will win the 55th anniversary trophy at the end of the current tournament, as they are currently leading the standings, 13 points ahead of their nearest pursuer.
Despite the constant success inside Scotland, Celtic have traditionally had a hard time clinging on to points on the international stage. And now in the current Champions League, they have finally solved the problem of reaching the playoffs. In eight rounds of the general stage allowed two defeats, failing to cope with Borussia and Aston Villa - 1:7 and 2:4, respectively, shared points with Atalanta - 0:0, Bruges - 1:1, Zagreb Dinamo - 0:0, beat Slovan - 5:1, Leipzig - 3:1, Young Boys - 1:0, taking 21st place in the standings.
In the winter, Glasgow representatives sold Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes, and Portuguese Jota, who previously played for Celtic, moved in the opposite direction. Another newcomer for the White and Green is the experienced Geoffrey Schlupp, who was on loan from Crystal Palace. In addition, James Forrest will not play in the upcoming game due to injury, and Daisen Maeda is disqualified due to suspension in the match against Young Boys.
Bayern
Bayern failed last season, when they finished in the Bundesliga not even in second, but in third place. Munich can no longer afford such results, and therefore in the current edition of the tournament show consistently good results. The last misfire they made back in mid-December, losing to Mainz 1:2, after which they produced a seven-match winning streak in the national championship, which allowed them to top the standings, ahead of their nearest rival by eight points.
On the overall Champions League stage, the German top club played ambiguously. Then there were victories over Benfica - 1:0, PSG - 1:0, Shakhtar - 5:1, an unexpected defeat from Feyenoord - 0:3, but in the final round they managed to defeat Slovan - 3:1, finishing in 12th place in the standings.
In winter, Bayern refused to make any serious acquisitions. Only goalkeeper Jonas Urbig was bought with an eye on the future, while Mathis Tel went on loan to Tottenham. The injured Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito will not help Munich in the upcoming game, while the participation of Serge Gnabry and Joao Palinha is questionable.
