Novak Djokovic
Djokovic began the event as the sixth seed, earning him a bye into the second round. In this match, he played the big-serving Maxime Cressy, who put up quite a fight in the first set. However, the Serbian won it in a tiebreak and then won the second set 6-4 to go to the Round of 16, when he defeated Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-1 to get to the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters.
Lorenzo Musetti
Musetti began his season at the year's last Masters 1000 tournament, defeating 15th seed Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4, not only advancing him to the next round but also registering his first win over the Croat.
The Italian then defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the Round of 16 to face third seed Casper Ruud. The Norwegian took the first set 6-4, but Musetti came back to win the following two sets 6-4, 6-4 to go to his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal.
