On Monday, October 31, ninth seed Taylor Fritz of the United States will face Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round of the 2022 Paris Masters.

Taylor Fritz is still chasing the ATP Finals, as the American has to win the event to have a chance. He performed admirably in Paris last week, and if he can repeat his performance, he may have a shot.
It's doubtful, but he can only take it one match at a time, and his first is against Davidovich Fokina.
They've played three times thus far, with Fokina leading 2-1, but all three games have been played on play, which is the considerably superior surface for the Spaniard. Since then, he has typically fallen in round one, losing at Gijon, Astana, and Basel. He's unlikely to improve that in Paris because he'll be facing a superior and more determined opponent.
He'd prefer to end the season on a positive note, but indoors are one of his poorest surfaces, and he's battled there in the past. He's 0-5 this year and 9-10 last year, so it's evident that this isn't his strongest surface. His serve isn't strong enough to be used as a weapon.
His groundstrokes may often be hit-or-miss, but his quickness could be an advantage in Paris. Playing against Fokina can be extremely aggravating, and Fritz has a history of frustration, which he may be able to exploit in this game.
