Tazmin Brits scored a blistering 101 from just 91 balls, with eight fours and four sixes and shared a vital opening stand with captain Laura Wolvaardt, who added 75 off 76 deliveries (7 fours), as South Africa posted 278/6 in 45.5 overs before rain brought an early end to their innings.

In reply, the West Indies were restricted to 121/9 in 27.5 overs while chasing a revised DLS target of 288 from 39 overs. Seamer Masabata Klaas starred with the ball, claiming career-best figures of four for 25.

Speaking at the post match press conference, Captain Wolvaardt said that the West Indies provided a good challenge ahead of the World Cup.

Laura Wolvaardt
Definitely, obviously being one down with the first game put us a bit on the back foot, we had to make sure our plans are right coming into that second and third game. To push 300 again almost twice in three games was very pleasing to see. I think we’ve been pushing that 300 mark quite regularly lately so ya, really glad to see the batting going in the right direction.

The series now shifts to the T20 format, with the first of three matches scheduled for Friday, 20 June at the Three Ws Oval.

Laura Wolvaardt
I think today was a great start. I think the way that Taz and I took on that power play was pretty much the same thing as T20 cricket. So I think just coming out with that positive intent and the rest of the order doing the same, if we could bowl the same with the ball, get them 10 for two or 10 for four or whatever they were, will be amazing.
