Bangladesh began their Asia Cup campaign with a seven-wicket win over Hong Kong in Dubai on Wednesday, riding on Litton Das’s unbeaten 61 and a solid 83-run stand with Towhid Hridoy (42). Chasing 149, they crossed the line in 18.4 overs after their bowlers, led by Taskin Ahmed (2/27), had restricted Hong Kong to 148/7.

Hong Kong Fall Short Despite Bright Start

Opting to bat, Hong Kong began positively through Nizakat Khan (38) and skipper Yasim Murtaza (27). But the middle order failed to capitalise as Bangladesh tightened the screws in the second half of the innings.

Murtaza admitted the team needed more runs
I am happy with the way our batters scored. But I will be happier if we got 160-170 plus — that would be a different total.

Taskin, Rishad keep Hong Kong in Check

Seamer Taskin Ahmed struck at key moments, while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain (1/25) bowled with control. Their efforts ensured Hong Kong were always kept within range.

Litton praised the attack, saying
Last couple of years, our pace department has done really well. We were looking for a leg-spinner and Rishad, in the last two or three years, has done well for Bangladesh.

Litton-Hridoy Partnership Proves Decisive

Bangladesh’s chase was anchored by Litton, who held the innings together with patience and precision. Partnering Hridoy, he turned the tide firmly in Bangladesh’s favour, ensuring no late drama.

Litton, adjudged Player of the Match, said
Very important to win the first game. Last couple of series, we have played good cricket. But in Asia Cup, little bit of pressure comes automatically (smiles). We played well today.

He added that the pitch demanded smart cricket: “It was not easy to hit every ball, the ground is big so you have to play ones and twos.”

Hong Kong’s Positives Despite Defeat

Murtaza found encouragement in his team’s improved discipline compared to their earlier defeat. “We gave too many freebies (against Afghanistan). Today, we came with the plan and this is what we implemented. They (Litton and Hridoy) had a good partnership and that is why the game ended on their side.”

Brief Scores: Hong Kong 148/7 in 20 overs (Nizakat Khan 38, Yasim Murtaza 27; Taskin Ahmed 2/27, Rishad Hossain 1/25) Bangladesh 152/3 in 18.4 overs (Litton Das 61*, Towhid Hridoy 42; Aizaz Khan 1/29) Result: Bangladesh won by 7 wickets. Player of the Match: Litton Das
