The Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) has explicitly denied claims that it has been invited to replace Pakistan at the Men's Asia Cup in Rajgir, Bihar.
We have not received any invitation from the AHF. We have seen the Indian media reports, but nothing has come from the AHF.

PHF Forced to Withdraw amid Government Red Flags
Telecom Asia Sport had reported on 7 August 2025 that the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) was effectively forced to pull out of the Asia Cup by Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, which deemed travel to Bihar too risky for Pakistani nationals (Telecom Asia Sport). With no formal clearance forthcoming, PHF had no option but to stay out of the tournament — yet the federation continues to maintain that they have not officially withdrawn, in a bid to save face. Withdrawal from the Asia Cup would seriously dent their World Cup chances, which will then hinge precariously on the qualifiers next year in March.
AHF Keeps Its Cards Close — Deadline Looms
Meanwhile, the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) is maintaining a tight-lipped stance, holding its cards close. With the tournament beginning in a matter of weeks and the team line-up deadline set for 15 August, the AHF’s delay is only adding to the uncertainty.
Tournament Loses Its Shine Without Pakistan
One thing is clear: the Asia Cup will lose much of its allure if Pakistan remains absent. Few substitutions can match the high-octane draw of a potential India vs Pakistan clash — a marquee matchup that has repeatedly enchanted fans.
Bangladesh Left Waiting in the Wings
Yet, this delay also does a disservice to Bangladesh. As the most likely replacement, they’re ready to step in—but without timely action from the AHF, they risk being sidelined entirely.
Bangladesh would love the opportunity but are reliant on visa processing by the Indian embassy.
Now the Ball’s in AHF’s Court
With the August 15 deadline fast approaching, the pressure now firmly sits with the AHF. Will they confirm Pakistan’s withdrawal and extend the invite to Bangladesh — or wait it out? It’s a high-stakes decision that will define the Asia Cup’s credibility and fan interest. When contacted by Telecom Asia Sport, sources in the AHF said, “There’s nothing official yet.”
