The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to expand its event calendar following the strong success of the Asia Cup held in the United Arab Emirates in September.

The decision came during the ACC Board meeting in Doha on Saturday, where officials agreed to introduce two new tournaments: a Legends of Asia event and a league dedicated to associate member nations.
An ACC spokesperson told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) that these initiatives are directly inspired by the Asia Cup’s unexpectedly high viewership figures.
Focus on Rising Talent
The meeting, chaired by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi of Pakistan, also finalised arrangements for the Rising Stars Asia Cup, a tournament previously known as the Emerging Asia Cup. The eight-nation T20 competition will take place in Doha from November 14–23, with recently upgraded facilities prepared to host the teams.
We want to promote cricket in new and developing cricket countries across Asia. The ACC will provide full support to nations looking to grow the sport.
Big Match to Open the Tournament
The Rising Stars Asia Cup will see a high-profile Pakistan vs India clash on the opening day, November 14. They will compete in a group alongside Oman and the UAE. The second group features Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.
Spotlight on Pakistan–India Dynamics
As always, the tournament brings renewed interest in the off-field dynamics between Pakistan and India. Attention is on whether there will be the customary handshake between players and, should India win the event, whether the team will receive the trophy from ACC President Naqvi, who is set to be the chief guest at the final.
