The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will conduct a full and transparent investigation into the sexual harassment allegations made by former national women’s team captain Jahanara Alam, confirmed Women’s Wing Chairman Abdur Razzak on Friday.

Razzak stated that the board will involve government law enforcement agencies if required to ensure a credible and thorough inquiry.
Allegations Spark Nationwide Attention
The allegations, raised by Jahanara in an interview with journalist Riasat Azim on YouTube, sent shockwaves through the country’s sporting community and prompted widespread public criticism. The BCB has since formed an internal investigation committee.
We are treating this matter with utmost seriousness. This is not about one cricketer. It is about the honour and dignity of women’s cricket as a whole.”
Next Steps Await President’s Return
Razzak noted that further decisions will be made after BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul returns to the country.
He added that seeking support from state authorities remains an option: “We do not want to leave any stone unturned. If needed, we will involve government agencies in the investigation.”
Concerns Over Safe Environment for Women’s Cricket
Razzak stressed the urgency of safeguarding trust in women’s cricket: “If we cannot assure a safe environment, families will hesitate to allow their daughters or relatives to pursue cricket. The future of women’s cricket depends on this.”
Details of the Allegations
Jahanara, currently in Australia, accused former selector and team manager Manjurul Islam of sexually harassing her during the 2022 Women’s World Cup in South Africa.
She alleges: • Manjurul made inappropriate proposals and behaved aggressively when rejected
• He engaged in unwelcome physical contact, including hugging and pressing female players to his chest under the pretext of encouragement
• Another board employee, Sarfaraz Babu, conveyed a proposal to her on behalf of the late Towhid Mahmud
Jahanara stated she had previously submitted a written complaint to the BCB, but no action was taken. Over her international career, Jahanara has played 135 white-ball games, taking 48 ODI and 60 T20I wickets for Bangladesh.
Government Vows Support
Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain announced that the government will fully support Jahanara and ensure accountability.
