Liverpool’s 2025–26 season has not gone to script.
A team that lifted its 20th league title in April is today stranded in 8th place, with 7 wins, 6 losses and 21 points from 13 matches, a wobble that has left supporters restless.

Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) caught up with two men who know the club’s heartbeat better than most, Robbie Fowler and David James who insist that panic is premature.
“We support Liverpool, so we’re always happy!” Fowler laughed, before turning serious. “This is football, results won’t stay negative. With the players we have, things will turn. We believe the club will be back very soon.”
Tick Liverpool off at your own risk. The season isn’t over. They can still challenge. A lot of criticism is just jealousy, and the fans will know when to remind others how good Liverpool are.
The duo are in India as part of Carlsberg India’s ‘Live the Miracle’ campaign, marking 20 years of the Miracle of Istanbul.
“Defenders Win You Titles” – What Liverpool Must Fix
Amid the humour and nostalgia, Fowler was clear about what Liverpool need to do immediately.
Formations, tactics, stopping the goals, it’s all being worked on. Forwards win you games, but defenders win you league titles. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes.
James agreed: “Confidence will shift, and when it does, it will breed success.”
The Miracle of 2005: “A Night Like a Movie Script”
Two decades on, the Istanbul comeback remains football’s gold standard for resilience. Fowler reflected: “We had a brilliant first half… and then Liverpool showed its never say die attitude. It was incredible for the club and the fans, that spirit has defined Liverpool for decades.”
Being 0–3 down in a Champions League final and clawing back… it felt like a movie script. I’ve been in many finals, none come close.
“Once You Play for Liverpool, You’re Family”
The former Reds praised the longevity of Liverpool’s partnership with Carlsberg, one of football’s longest-running.
Family values have always defined Liverpool. Loyalty is the big word.
James added: “Thirty years on, this partnership still thrives because both sides share the same values. Once you play for Liverpool, you’re part of that family.”
Who Mirrors the Resilience of 2005? Salah & Robertson Named
Asked who embodies the courage of the Miracle side today, Fowler didn’t hesitate. “Mo Salah. His numbers scream leadership. He’s extraordinary.”
James picked defender Andy Robertson: “He was the best for years, then pushed aside, then called back. His resilience is exactly what you expect from a Liverpool player.”
India’s 90 Million Reds: “Nothing Surprises Me Anymore”
Perhaps the only thing that did surprise Fowler once was the size of Liverpool’s global fanbase, until he saw India. “The love here is incredible. India makes Liverpool special.” James, who first visited India in 2014, was stunned too: “Liverpool banners in Kerala… huge gatherings. Ninety million supporters, more than the UK’s population!”
India the ‘Sleeping Giant’? The Legends Weigh In
On Indian football, both men acknowledged the challenges, dual leagues, governance issues, but remained hopeful. Fowler said: “Indigenous football has issues, but they can be resolved. One day, we hope to see India at a World Cup — maybe even Indian players in top European leagues. Why not? Football has room for miracles.”
