Pakistan’s cricketers have expressed heartfelt gratitude to their Sri Lankan counterparts for choosing to continue the tour despite security concerns, calling it a “victory for cricket” and a moment that will further strengthen ties between the two nations.

A Close Call Turned Around
The tour was on the brink of collapse after a suicide bombing in Islamabad, just a few miles from the Rawalpindi Stadium where the opening ODI was played. The attack killed 12 people and left the Sri Lankan camp deeply shaken.
Eight visiting players initially asked Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to send them home, but intense efforts by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, in coordination with SLC officials, helped calm nerves. After a series of late-night discussions and renewed security assurances, the visitors agreed to continue the tour.
The second ODI, originally scheduled for Thursday, will now take place on Friday, while the final match has been moved to Saturday.
Shaheen: “A Victory for Cricket”
Pakistan’s ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi led the chorus of appreciation, calling Sri Lanka’s decision an act of courage and goodwill.
We are thankful to the Sri Lankan players and their Board for continuing with the tour. This decision will go a long way in not only keeping cricket alive in Pakistan but also strengthening Pakistan–Sri Lanka ties.
He urged supporters to show their appreciation in person.
I appeal to fans in Rawalpindi and nearby areas to come to the stadium in big numbers and salute the Sri Lankan players for their bravery and sincerity towards Pakistan.
Agha: “A Positive Message for Pakistan”
Pakistan’s T20I captain Salman Agha said Sri Lanka’s decision sent a strong signal to the world.
The decision by Sri Lankan players will send a very positive message about Pakistan. They made the right call and have helped Pakistan cricket in a great way.
Rauf: “A Decision Written in Golden Words”
Express pacer Haris Rauf was equally effusive in his praise.
They (Sri Lankan players) have made a decision which will be written in golden words. We cannot thank them enough. I appeal to the fans to come in big numbers and give a standing ovation to the Sri Lankan team.
PCB Plans Tribute
According to PCB sources, special arrangements are being made to honour the visiting players during the remaining matches. The board is planning a standing ovation for the Sri Lankan team before the start of the second ODI in Rawalpindi.
A Gesture That Rekindles Faith
For Pakistan cricket, still rebuilding global confidence after years of security challenges, Sri Lanka’s decision to stay has offered more than just a continuation of matches—it has reaffirmed friendship, trust and the shared spirit that binds the two cricket-loving nations.
