Akeal Hosein held his nerve in a tense Super Over to deliver West Indies a thrilling one-run win over Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, levelling the three-match ODI series 1-1 on Tuesday.

Defending ten runs, Hosein mixed dot balls with wides and a no-ball but kept his composure as Bangladesh’s Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, and Najmul Hossain Shanto failed to find the boundary they needed. It was Bangladesh’s first-ever tie in men’s international cricket — their first in 814 matches — before the West Indies prevailed in the one-over decider.
Hope Anchors Innings, Hosein Finishes Job
Shai Hope was the backbone of West Indies’ chase, crafting a composed 52 to keep his side in contention while wickets tumbled around him. His leadership proved vital in both innings — first scoring the only half-century of the match and later steering his team through the Super Over.
We say about West Indies cricket that we always keep fans on the seats… It was a very good game. Happy that the guys pulled it back. Hopefully, we can take those learnings into the next game.
Bangladesh Falter Under Pressure
Chasing 214, the match went down to the wire with five runs needed in the final over. Saif Hassan bowled two dot balls and a single before dismissing Hosein, leaving Khary Pierre and Hope to scramble two runs off the last delivery after wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan dropped a sitter — forcing the Super Over.
It was a new experience for us — our first-ever Super Over. Rishad batted really well. One boundary could have changed things.
Rishad’s Late Assault Lifts Bangladesh
Earlier, leg-spinning allrounder Rishad Hossain smashed a breathtaking unbeaten 39 off just 14 balls, including three sixes and as many fours, to lift Bangladesh to 213 after a sluggish start. Soumya Sarkar’s patient 45 had kept the innings together before Rishad’s explosive cameo turned the tide late on.
For the West Indies, Gudakesh Motie took 3 for 65, while Alick Athanaze’s tight spell of 2 for 14 from ten overs kept Bangladesh in check before Rishad’s counter-attack.
Spin Dominates as Records Fall
The contest etched its place in the record books as the first ODI in which all 50 overs were bowled by spinners — West Indies used spin throughout, breaking Sri Lanka’s 2004 record of 44 overs. With Bangladesh also sending down 42 overs of spin, the match featured an extraordinary 92 overs of slow bowling.
Brief Scores: Bangladesh: 213/7 (Soumya Sarkar 45, Rishad Hossain 39*; Gudakesh Motie 3-65, Alick Athanaze 2-14) West Indies: 213/9 (Shai Hope 52, Keacy Carty 35; Rishad Hossain 3-42, Nasum Ahmed 2-38) Super Over: West Indies 10/1 beat Bangladesh 9/1. Result: West Indies won by one run (series level 1-1)
