The London Spirit Women won the opening game of their new campaign. It was a long delayed high for them after finishing the campaign outside the top five in back-to-back seasons. The team is brimming with confidence after such a fantastic start to the campaign, where the success, according to the team, lies in taking wickets at regular intervals that allowed it to register victory against defending champions.

Heather Knight was sublime as she flogged 65 runs off Southern Brave, carrying from the brilliant form that she had amassed while playing for England in the recent WT20I home series. Knight struck 65 runs from 31 balls, with nine boundaries and one six.

Georgia Redmayne also had a good contribution to the opening game, falling five runs short of a half-century. Having already shown some great form for South East Stars in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, Redmayne wants to further enhance her team's batting lineup with more notable performances.

Sarah Glenn was quite economical and gave away only 29 runs in her 20 balls even though she didn't get any wicket. Erin Burns, however, struck early to get two of the top-order players of Southern Brave in Danni Wyatt and Charli Knott.

The Birmingham Phoenix Women have put up a rather disappointing display in the match recently against London Spirit Women and in the game before that as well, against Oval Invincibles. Although Phoenix took an early wicket, they never really got going in the match due to a weak batting lineup, and the performances are a worry for them heading into the next games. Only four batters reached double figures, with Amy Jones top-scoring with 21 runs from 15 balls. The team only hit one six and a total of nine boundaries in their innings. The improvement in batting will be required much more if Phoenix is to perform better in the next game.

Emily Arlott was the star performer amongst the bowlers for Phoenix in the last match, picking up two wickets for 19 runs and also being the most economical bowler. She will be keen to carry her form forward to the next match, as she did not pick any wickets in the last match against Spirit.

The London Spirit Women team is in a good spirit after winning the previous match against the defending champions. While the Phoenix team has not really made any significant impact in their matches so far, especially against the Oval Invincibles, they have simply lacked in batting as well as bowling strength and form. So, it is expected in the upcoming game that the London Spirit Women will be the one to win comfortably.
